It all started as an annoyance. My desktop mail client displays embedded images at their full size, since I don’t have a ten-foot-wide monitor, only a small portion can be seen. Sometimes that is amusing, sometimes charming, sometimes surprising.
A well-composed photograph is supposed to lead the viewer to the main subject, and nothing is supposed to detract. Yet there may be a part, especially in street photography, for example, in the background or even withing the subject itself, that can make an interesting image all by itself.
On many occasions I have presented such imagery here and elsewhere.
Here is a photo and a “glimpse”, from a recent post here, “Resolution“.
And another example from over at Composition Rules, “Festival Scenes“.
I did several posts with “glimpses” over at Two Cameras – Two Views, like As seen in Outlook – 1 | Two Cameras – Two Views (wordpress.com)
Such “glimpses” can be fun. Maybe you have found such areas in some of your own photos. Maybe this can be a challenge topic that many would enjoy.
What do you say? Shall we start something? The topic would be “glimpse”, as would be the tag. The rules would be simple enough: find one of your photos that you can get a cute cutout from, say less than a quarter of the area, and post both. Call the post “Glimpse” – or anything you like. Tag it “glimpse”. Link to or comment on other “glimpse” posts from me or other bloggers.
Of course, any post-processing or manipulation is allowed.
Sort of like this:
Glimpse
The dictionary says:
noun: a momentary or partial view
verb: see or perceive briefly or partially
What can we glimpse? Let’s see:
