Our partial solar eclipse
Georgia was way outside the path of the “ring of fire”, annular solar eclipse, on October 14, 2023. Not only that it was mostly cloudy.
When the clouds were just thick enough, the partially eclipsed sun could be viewed, and photographed, without a filter aid.
My “pocket-size eclipse viewer”, consisting of two 3×7 cards with a small hole in one of them, served well. The size of the sun’s image can be easily controlled by the separation of the cards. With arms pretty well stretched out, about 5 feet, the image size is about a half inch across.
Here a closer version, with a neat paper texture.

Oh, what fabulous photos of what must gave been a thrilling event.
Thank you, Margaret. With lots of clouds this seemed like the best approach. We had fun watching with my “pocket viewer”.
