All About Light

Over on my gallery site, Ludwig.Gallery, there is a new “room” with an exhibit titled “All About Light“. It started with a larger collection. I invited members of my photography club to take on the role of curator. Rather than picking the images that should be included, I asked them to pick those that should not be part. Now, as this post is published, there are twelve images left.

All the images in that “room” are photos, one had been included that was of the “cafe art” variety – highly manipulated. It did not fit in with the others – so out it went. Here is that image.

Evening at Mojitos – Ludwig Keck – 2018

Back before the pandemic one of our local restaurants turned lively late at on Saturday nights with a DJ providing music that got the patrons on their feet. Most of the regular lights were turned off and colored lights would flash in tune with the music.

Fast motion, mostly dark room with bright colored light spots, made photography a real challenge. My old camera was set to ISO 22800, the lens at f/4 and a shutter speed of 1/60 second.

Here is that same photo, differently cropped and reprocessed using up-to-date tools.

It is a nice enough photo and technically acceptable, but it does not fully convey the feeling of fun that prevailed. Adding some effects brings some of that life to the images.

Here are some more of my cafe art interpretations.
