When a subject defeats the iPhone
It was a sunny morning. I had gone out to pick up the newspaper when I noticed beautiful light on our Joro spider web. I pulled out my iPhone and approached as close as I could. Nothing that I did would bring the spider into focus. Switching to the different cameras would not allow me to focus. Joro spider webs are not flat like the “classic” webs but are a three-dimensional mess. So there was a limit to how close I could get. I had done better on other occasions, but the situation on this morning soundly defeated the iPhone.

The challenge was just too tempting. Back to the house for the “big” camera. I mounted the trusty 90 mm Tamron macro lens. No problem with focus. Just a twist of the focus ring to get close and autofocus finished the job.

Let’s rotate the frame and take a closer look (not the same as the image above).

There is more to this story, but I’ll save that for another day.

Well, whatever trials you went through were worth it. Great images!
Thanks, Margaret – I like Joro spider and have quite a collection of photos – some are even fsily good.
